Well I can't remember the exact date that my site opened but i would say that it has been up and running since around october 2006. It was really just a small site that I made when I was bored and I thought that nobody would actually go and look at it and plus there was no way for me to advertise it. So the only way that I could tell the world about my site was on my Youtube profile page. Not many people look there but one VERY important person did. I received an email a while ago from a very nice lady who runs Nastia Liukin's official website. I shared some videos of Nastia's mum to Harriet so she could put them on Nastia's website. Sometime in November I noticed that Nastia's link page had been updated so I decided to take a look. I saw a Nastia Liukin Fansite and I thought to myself "I never knew that someone had made a real fansite about Nastia" Curious, I decided to compare their site to mine. Well did I get the shock of my life when I opened up my own site. I finally had the advertising I needed to get some visitors to my site. I had about 15 hits to my site the next time I looked at my site I had over 100. That might not sound very high but it meant alot to me.
CURRENT LAYOUT
The current layout (shown below) made it's debut on the 7th of April 2007. It was just after Nastia's site had a major update
How I discovered Nastia Liukin
After i saw the movie Stick It, I fell in love with the sport of gymnastics but I had no idea that Nastia was an actual gymnast. I thought she was a character in the movie. HOW WRONG I WAS. By mistake I came across the name Nastia and decided to do a bit of research on her. I was just so fascinated by her such magnigicent lines that I started to make video montages on Youtube.
I made one montage all about Nastia and was overwhelmed by the fact that it had 20 VIEWS!! But when I looked at other videos and realised that they had 10 times that ammount I thought that i had to make a really moving video, something that would really get to people. As I was thinking about what sort of montage to make I was watching some of Nastia's competitions and realised that most of the time, when she came off the apparatus, her dad would hug her and if she was upset with her performance he would make her feel a whole lot better and if she was extremely happy with her performance I can guarantee you, HE WAS HAPPIER! Thats when I knew I had to make a video about her connection with her dad/coach. I found plenty of videos and beautiful music and put it all together and straight onto youtube. The response I got was overwhelming!
I had responses of people saying that nearly made me cry and that was so sweet. It was incredible but that was nothing compared to the email I got on youtube.
On November 4th i received an email via youtube saying:
Hi. My name is Brandi Simek and I work for WOGA Gymnastics. I found the montage you made for Nastia and Valeri. It's amazing. It made me cry. I showed it to Anna, her mom, and she loved it as well. Then she asked me for a copy of it!
At first I was a little hazy, I thought maybe it was someone playing a joke or something but as I red it more and showed my mum I realised that this was real. I can't explain my reaction. Excited, extatic, shocked, overwhealmed and any other word that fits in that sentence. I received that email over 2 months ago and I still have it.
Before christmas my mum really wanted to get Nastia's autograph for me. As we come from Australia we could never go to her competitions and certainly not to her gym but my mum knew about Brandi and she knew about Harriet. We didn't have an address for Harriet but we knew that Brandi worked at WOGA,My mum didn't exactly know too much about where Harriet came from or her last name so she addressed a letter to Harriet at WOGA! The letter just talked about how much i loved watching Nastia and about all my montages and about this site. Christmas came but nothing arrived and about a week after christmas my mum told me what she had done, When i told her that Harriet didn't work at WOGA but Brandi did we both laughed and didn't worry about. New years came and i'd completly forgotten about it untill on the 17th of January my mum called me from her work and said you'll never guess what just arrived here at work... Three guesses what it was!! A signed picture of Nastia Liukin, I don't know who sent it or but I have been told that it never got into Harriet's hands but now it sits nicely in a frame for everybody to see :)
